Video Games and Education (Res #9)

I found this article that really breaks down a history of how video games have been used for many years in education and training. I can relate the section of how gaming design is used in the simulation technology for training purposes. Flight simulators are a perfect example of how pilots can train safely and become better at flying. The risk of crashing a jet while learning has been reduced ultimately saving lives in the process. Through the years there have been tank simulators and probably many other’s that are not mentioned. I hadn’t thought about discussing the use of simulator’s in the world of gaming until I read this article but they are actually just big educational games. Can you argue that games are all useful for people? There is a useful aspect mentally for many games and many with a physical benefit; simulators like the military use fit the profile of both.
