Research Blog #9: Consulting parents.
This article is aimed at parents, a demographic typically focused on the dangers of exposing their children to video games. This article is written by a well respected and published psychologist and she provides a list of 8 reasons video games can be beneficial to children (a demographic seen as the most susceptible to negative influences). I had already seen articles that explained benefits such as problem solving skills and cognitive development, but this article brought up ideas such as creativity, fostering interpersonal relationships, inspiring interest in real life activities, and awarding kids the chance to compete and lead. By introducing these basic ideas, I am given the fuel to finish off the rest of my paper through the incorporation of some of these ideas.
