One of the first articles I stumbled across was a court case decision talking about video games and how they related to the First Amendment. The decision was released on June 27, 2011, and it established that not only were video games covered under the First Amendment, but that video game content could not be regulated by governments. This case has a huge effect on violence in video games because it gives creators much more freedom in what they put in their games. All they have to do is claim their first amendment right in defense of whatever content they include in the game. This event really limits what the government can keep out of video games content wise.
